Imagine two middle-aged African American women who are best friends, traveling worldwide to destinations that dazzle the eye and intrigue the mind. Picture your curiosity sparked as they discover people who invite you into their lives, traditions and cultures.
Envision this duo, bringing the world up-close and personal to television viewers in a way that is fun, fresh and unexpected. These are the “Grannies on Safari™.”
The "Grannies", comprised of Pat Johnson and Regina Fraser, have between them traveled to more than 80 countries over the last three decades. With their pioneering new television series “Grannies on Safari™,” they offer audiences surprises at every turn in their determination to track down cultural treasures. The pilot episode aired locally June 26, 2005. The entire series will premier nationally October 2006.
Each episode of “Grannies on Safari™” provides an expedition seeking the interesting, the bizarre, the exotic and the sublime. Pat and Regina follow winding roads; ride canoes, camels and donkeys; look behind mysterious doors; and visit urban city centers and rural hamlets. This “dynamic duo's” interaction with each other and the situations in which they find themselves make each show an engaging journey.
While the sites showcased in “Grannies on Safari™” are unique, the “Grannies on Safari™” series features Pat and Regina – real people meeting other real people all over the world, the latter acting as guides who reveal fascinating, creative and distinctive things about themselves and their lands.
As "Grannies on Safari™", Pat and Regina hope to share their love for travel, culture and art in a way that captivates audiences and broadens their appreciation for other cultures in today’s diverse and increasingly linked global community.
